Hi,
I'm Leslie and I live in Lawrence, KS. My interest in OTR has evolved from an interest in classic film and television. The star of one of my favorite old TV shows, Fran Allison (Kukla, Fran and Ollie) first became famous with The Breakfast Club out of Chicago. That's where my username comes from too, as she was "Aunt Fanny" on The Breakfast Club.
I have recently become interested in Fred Allen, but I like Jack Benny, Burns and Allen and Edgar Bergen too As you can see, I'm mostly a comedy girl, but I'm always open to new things.
So glad that the internet is rich with radio shows. Lots of entertainment here! |

Howdy Leslie,
Welcome to our little circle. It's great to hear from the Heartland!
I guess I am going to have to listen to The Breakfast Club now. _________________ Happy Listening,

Hi Leslie,
Welcome to the gang. I also like comedy shows. If you haven't tried them yet, you'll have to look into Fibber McGee and Molly and Duffy's Tavern.
I hope you enjoy your time on this site as much as I have.

| Hi Leslie: Welcome to OTR Fans. I know you'll enjoy the comradie among a bunch of OTR fans who share their knowledge of the Golden Age of Radio. Since you are from Lawrence, Kansas, you must know of its Civil War history when it was literally burned to the ground (or almost) by Quantrell's Raiders. That's how "Bloody Kansas" came to be. The John Wayne movie "Dark Command" with Walter Pidgeon as "Cantrell" was taken from that historical event. Getting back to your interest in the Breakfast Club. It was Don McNeill's Breakast Club. Dunning's Encyclopedia of Old Time Radio shows that it began in 1933 and ran until 1968. I recall hearing it around 10 am every morning. One feature I recall was marching around the breakfast table, usually during the "Third Call to Breakfast." With an appeal to the Mr. and Mrs. Middle America, the program had a special prayer time, especially during the war, where the audience was asked to "each in his own way" pray for peace. Fran Allison played "Aunt Fanny" a gossipy old maid, which on radio was easy, because on television, she was a very young attractive woman. |
